Mutya ng Pilipinas Presents 24 Official 2010 Mutya ng Pilipinas Candidates
August 11, 2010: All of the 24 Official Candidates of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2010 pageant are finally revealed to the media in a Press Conference at the Maxim’s Roof Deck Pool in Resorts’ World Manila. The excitement has been brewing, as the city has been abuzz with the news that the pageant has a new team, namely ScribbleWorks Production, Inc., in charge of organizing the competition.
Everyone is enthusiastic to get on board with the competition, as many major partners and sponsors have been secured. National Pageant Committee Chair, Ms. Tati Fortuna, says, “Our company is serious about elevating this pageant to the highest level. This is a huge task and we are all very excited to implement new ideas on this project. We want to transform the organization and make it the most prestigious beauty pageant in the country.” Ms. Fortuna is also the Managing Director at Scribbleworks Production, Inc.
On July 24, 2010, the pageant committee held its Final Screening at the Mariott Hotel in Newport City, Pasay. The top 60 girls were invited back from regional screenings that took place in Manila, Cebu and Davao. The selection of the candidates this year was definitely more intense, as Noli Berioso later recounts, “I was really impressed with the quality of the girls in this year’s Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant. I can say that the organizers are really serious about making this pageant a more exciting event that beauty aficionados can really look forward to watch. It is also interesting to note that this year’s edition of Mutya will mark their return to a major television network. For sure, the pageant community will give its full support to one of the most prestigious national beauty contests in the country.”
Mr. Berioso, one of the moderators of OPMB – a very popular and well-respected forum that discusses beauty pageants amongst other beauty themes – and his team were invited by the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization to witness the tense mood outside the closed door screening and deliberation room.
The bloggers behind MabuhayBeauties.com, another website about beauty pageants followed religiously by fans, were also close at hand to document the tense atmosphere outside of the panel room. It took the judges several hours to deliberate their vets to become the Official Candidates of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2010.
The changes in the look of this year’s pageant were already noticeable, even before the Final Screening took place. With a new stylist, Charmaine Grace Palermo, the pageant organizers invited a group of girls that were available for a test shoot done by this year’s official photographer, Mark Ang.
A team of make-up artists and hair stylists, headed by Lourd Ramos for Davines, gave the girls a makeover on the day of their welcome dinner at Bistro Miyake in Greenhills on August 8, 2010. Beauty guru, Jing Mones, taught the beauty pageant contestants the basics of proper application of day and evening make-up. Gone are the days of the heavy pageant make-up as the girls learned the technique in looking naturally beautiful with the right cosmetic products, sponsored by Maybelline and L’Oreal.
Ms. Fortuna is really adamant about getting the best girls and making sure that the best efforts are made to give the girls a glamorous makeover. In addition to grooming and styling, the contestants had a full day of orientation to learn the basic walk of international beauty pageants, taught by Philippine top model and personality, Joey Meade.
The organizers really want to intensify the tourism thrust, for which the pageant is known, beginning with this year’s competition. They selected one of the top tourist spots in the country, Puerto Princessa, to host the Preliminary Swimsuit portion. All the girls will be wearing swimwear by designer, Charina Sarte at the Sheridan Beach Resort and Convention Center.
Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn says, “It has been the statement of the City of Puerto Princessa to partner with institutions known for promoting the beautiful islands of the Philippines. We are gifted with numerous wonders of God, and that includes beautiful and intelligent locals who possess the great love in preserving and conserving the environment. Under this premise, we can partner with Mutya ng Pilipinas. It brings an opportunity to promote the beauty of our city and its people.”
The pageant hopefuls have a packed itinerary as they tour the major tourist sites of the “City of Natural Wonders.” One of the highlights of the trip is a sightseeing tour of the Puerto Princessa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP) before they depart for Manila on August 14th, 2010. History and geography enthusiasts should note that the “Underground River” was announced as one of the Top 28 nominees for the New 7 Wonders of Nature on July 21, 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland. In addition, the twenty-four ladies will tour and film AVP shoots in Bee Farm, Baywalk, Crocodile Farm, and Ugong Rock.
The competitions in Manila will be held in different venues at Resorts World Manila, including the Maxim’s Roof Deck Pool and the newly built Performing Arts Theater. The Coronation night on August 28th, 2010 will be the first event ever held in the new auditorium, as the pageant utilizes its state of the art technology.
The contestants, including the delegates representing the Overseas Community – an integral aspect of the competition instituted earlier in the decade by the pageant committee, will be staying at the Discovery Suites for the duration of the pageant.
Mutya ng Pilipinas Pageant Night will have a delayed broadcast on ABS-CBN on September 5th, 2010 at 10:30pm. This year will mark the beauty contest’s return to a major national television network.
