UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON

BENETTON: SUMMER EXPLOSION 2

For Immediate Release: April 16, 2012 – United Colors of Benetton’s kaleidoscope of signature brights and cheerful prints bear all the trendsetting elements of the season: snazzy stripes, pretty florals, smart checks, in a rainbow cascade of colors, from classic reds, whites, and blues, to dreamy pinks and lilacs, to deep, earthy tones like burnt orange and brick. Summer 2012 takes all the seasonal style musts and gives them the patented, UCB happy twist. Soak in the summer sun in crisp shirts and buttondowns in cool solids. Put a spring in your summer step with fun, fashion pieces like scarf blouses and mini bibs and braces. Feel ultra feminine in the summer breeze in silk tulip miniskirts or dresses of lace-like broderie anglaise. Be the slickest guy-about-town in multi-colored, ‘50s-inspired knit shirts.

United Colors of Benetton puts a gleeful spin on the season’s hottest trends, adapting flash style to a classic, maximum utility wardrobe. It’s youthful energy permeates throughout the wacky sensibility that has put the brand on the style map and teases out all style possibilities. Stripes race in varied directions, intertwining or dissolving into one another. Square patterns alternate from bold, tartan-like variations to sunny Madras prints and artsy brushstrokes. Summer blue cavorts from serene turquoise to deep indigo.

The women’s collection pools together the feminine, the whimsical, and the classic, for the entire range of summer sensibilities. Elegant silk, is perfect for sophisticated summer nights, in chic cigarette pants, tulip miniskirts, masculine-cut shirts and fluid scarf-blouses. Another beguilingly feminine element to the season is broderie anglaise, which lends a child-like, girlish charm to summer dressing.

Stripes make an appearance in various forms, in thin-striped shorts to maxi-striped scarf blouses, from the simple kimono blouse to sailor T-shirts or jacquard knits with an ethnic touch. Whether random or perfectly aligned, United Colors of Benetton’s stripe patterns reflect the brand’s creativity and perky color schemes.

Another focal print for the season is the square, which smartens up, with its tartan-like designs, gabardine trenches and muslin, ankle-length kilts. Madras checks make for folksy sun dresses while brushstroke-like squares decorate sexy slip dresses.

United Colors of Benetton sings the blues this season, in its high rhapsody on the color. From the elegance of blue in formal trousers, chic cardigans, refined dresses and blouses to the cool casualness of indigo denim, from jeans to shorts and more forward styles such as short jackets and mini bib and braces. Summer blue may become turquoise and turn into large, rich, knee- or ankle-length gathered skirts, or jodhpurs to wear with a blazer or cotton sheath dresses. Blue is classically matched with off-white.

The men’s collection, meanwhile, features fascinating elements to spice up a styling man’s wardrobe. Shirts come in bold color schemes—blue and orange, coral and turquoise, yellow and red, green and cornflower blue—in ‘50s retro style, with contrast colors in the sleeves, front panel, and edging. Alternatively, there are pastels for the bold man, for shirts, tees, trousers and shorts, light sweaters and waistcoats.

“Beaten into shape” becomes a key look, with bleached jeans, faded or mottled chambray shirts, gradient-dyed sweaters evoking a worn, “used” relaxed vibe for summer.

The knitting, handcrafted trend comes to menswear in handmade spring pullovers, to a faux duffle coat with frog fastenings, zipped, collared cardigans and sailor jerseys and shawl-collar sweaters.

Stripes and squares form exciting patterns for the male wardrobe but are more understated than the women’s. There are English stripes for polo shirts, sports stripes for T-shirts, fine stripes for shirts, and ethnic jacquard bands for medium-weight pullovers. There are also gingham-like, basic checks for Bermuda shorts and country smocks.

United Colors of Benetton maintains its position as global brand for quality, directional casualwear with its pulse on key trends and emphasis on fun and creativity in design and dressing. Season after season, UCB is a reliable source of easy to wear casuals, backed by Italian manufacturing, that can be dressed up or down, and ultimately work as sound investment pieces. UCB is also known for its social advocacies, for promoting, especially through its advertising, a world beyond borders, skin color, and language.
